EFD2PATRAN is a tool that allows the user to import temperature or pressure data, calculated by any of the EFD products, as variable fields into MSC.Patran. These fields can then be used to assign complex variable temperature or pressure input loads for the respective FEA model. The deformation and resulting stresses due to these input loads can then be calculated by MSC.Nastran, MSC.Marc or any other FEA solver that interfaces with MSC.Patran.

Product Overview
EFD2Patran enables the user to map pressure and temperature loads from a Flo.EFD analysis to a Finite Element model in Patran using spatial mapping.
Typical procedure and use of EFD2Patran:
- Setup and analyse a Flo.EFD model
- Obtain temperature and Pressure results from Flo.EFD
- Import the temperature and pressure results from Flo.EFD into a Patran model
- Apply the temperature and pessures loads and analyse using Nastran
Installing the EFD to Patran Bridge
- The Flo.EFD to Patran Bridge installer has been designed so that it can be installed for multiple Patran versions on the PC. To install to a second Patran version, simply re-run the FloEFD to Patran bridge installer and pick a different Patran root directory. The Flo.EFD to Patran Bridge need to be able to contact the Flo.EFD licensing subsystem and the EFD API SDK.
- Download the installation file here
EFD Licensing
- This is an unsupported version of EFD2Patran. No license required.
EFD SDK
- Install the EFD API SDK from the Flo.EFD DVD you used to install Flo.EFD or the Flo.EFD license system from. The API SDK used must be the 32-bit version if 32-bit Flo.EFD is installed and 64-bit if 64-bit Flo.EFD is installed.
Flo.EFD to Patran Bridge
- Install the Flo.EFD to Patran Bridge that matches your Flo.EFD install (32-bit / 64 bit).
- To install, simply browse to the Patran root directory (e.g. “C:\MSC.Software\Patran\2008_r1”).
- The reader can be installed to multiple versions of Patran if needed. Simply re-run the installer and pick another Patran’s root directory.
- It does not matter in which order the three pieces of software is installed as long as all three are installed.
Uninstalling the reader
- Each install creates an EFD2Patran folder in the specific Patran install directory which contains an EFDPatran Coupling-xxx-Uninstall.exe file. The EFD-Patran Coupling-xxx-Uninstall.exe needs to be run in order to remove the Flo.EFD to Patran Bridge for that specific version of Patran.
- Because the installer can be used on multiple versions of Patran on one PC, the uninstall option is not available from the “Add and remove programs” options in the control panel.
